Penolakan boleh mencari baki selepas sebahagian dikeluarkan atau beza antara dua kuantiti.

jumlah asal − dikeluarkan = baki

Baki atau beza = 剩下的或相差
减法有两种用途：拿走一部分后剩下多少，或比较两个数相差多少。原来的数 − 拿走的数 = 剩下的数。
例子：有 365 张贴纸，送出 120 张，剩下 365 − 120 = 245 张。
注意：要用大的数减小的数，别把两个数的位置写反。

Baki atau beza = What is left or the difference
Subtraction finds what is left after some are taken away, or how far apart two amounts are. Starting amount − amount taken = what is left.
Example: There are 365 stickers and 120 are given away, so 365 − 120 = 245 are left.
Watch out: Start with the bigger number; do not swap the two numbers.

Langkah 2

Susun mengikut nilai tempat

Tulis sa di bawah sa, puluh di bawah puluh dan ratus di bawah ratus sebelum menolak.

Susun sebelum menolak = 减之前先对齐
直式减法也要个位对个位、十位对十位、百位对百位，然后从个位开始减。
例子：587 − 45：45 靠右对齐，7 − 5 = 2，8 − 4 = 4，百位 5 照抄，得 542。
注意：下面的数没有百位时，上面的百位直接照抄下来。

Susun sebelum menolak = Line up before subtracting
In column subtraction, put ones under ones, tens under tens and hundreds under hundreds. Then subtract from the ones, so each column deals with one kind of place.
Example: 587 − 45: line 45 up on the right; 7 − 5 = 2, 8 − 4 = 4, and the 5 hundreds stay, giving 542.
Watch out: When the bottom number has no hundreds, copy the top hundreds digit straight down.

Langkah 3

Semak dengan tambah

Tambah baki kepada nombor yang ditolak untuk menyemak. Untuk mencari nombor yang hilang, contohnya 789 − ☐ = 453, kira 789 − 453 = 336.

baki + ditolak = nombor asal

Semak dengan tambah = 用加法检查
减完后，把剩下的数加回减去的数，应该得到原来的数。剩下 + 减去 = 原来的数。
例子：648 − 215 = 433，检查 433 + 215 = 648，对了。
注意：检查时要加回“减去的数”，不是加回原来的数。

After subtracting, add the answer back to the number you took away. You should get the starting number again.
Example: 648 − 215 = 433. Check: 433 + 215 = 648, so it is right.
Watch out: Add the answer to the number taken away, not to the starting number.

The question is 786 − 243. Each top digit is bigger than the one below, so no borrowing is needed; subtract ones, tens and hundreds in turn. Then add 243 back to check.
Example: 958 − 314 = 644.
Watch out: Take extra care with the tens column, where the choices differ.
